Rena began her singing career at the age of 11, when she wrote and recorded her first song in her uncle’s recording studio. At 13 years old, Rena recorded her debut single ‘My Feelings Are Just Right’ with 90’s pop producer Andy Whitmore (of Peter Andre, Eternal and Dannii Minogue fame). The single was released on her father’s newly formed record label ‘Crest Records’ in 1993. The record was air played on a number of regional BBC radio stations and play listed by DJs at a variety of clubs around the UK. She soon enrolled into the infamous ‘Sylvia Young Theatre School’ with a scholarship.

As a teenager, Rena spent most her teen years touring around the UK, performing to large audiences at schools, under 18 clubs, asian melas and festivals, including the Greenwich Anti Racist Festival. The media also took an interest in Rena and she was interviewed live on DJ Ritu’s show on BBC 3 Counties Radio and also on asian station Sunrise Radio, as well as making an appearance on popular asian TV show ‘Zee TV’. She was also featured in local and national newspapers including The Evening Standard and asian newspaper Eastern Eye.

After years of recording in various projects and bands, Rena took up classical indian singing to further develop her vocal style. She has spent over a decade studying Raga with renowned classical singer Ustad Latafat Ali Khan, son of legendary singer Ustad Salamat Ali Khan, and has since worked with a variety of top music producers including: Hannah V, Raphael Mello, Paul Powell, Studio Killers, Dick Trevor, Jules Hamer, Nick Sagar-House, Dariusz Stawicki and Pete Ardron.

Rena supported singer Sheila Chandra at Frome Festival and performed alongside singer Paul Powell with his band ‘Hot Ice’ at the star studded event ‘Urban in Ibiza’ featuring Goldie, Mel B (All Saints) and Brandon Block.

The artist is lead vocalist with electronic band ‘DHUNA’, founded by composer and pianist Dariusz Stawicki. The band released the acclaimed album ‘No Doubt’ in 2011 and went on their first European tour in 2013, performing at Solstice Festival in Holland, Goa Dupa Festival in Poland and Yaga Festival in Lithuania.

Rena has recently started to branch out musically into other dance genres, with a debut release on Drum & Bass label Figment Records. The track entitled ‘Hamare Sunrise’ is a collaboration with D&B artist Astral Valley.

Rena was involved with ‘Camden Youth Action’; a youth project supported by the Amy Winehouse Foundation. The project, which is run by Fitzrovia Youth in Action, aims to raise drug and alcohol awareness amongst the younger generation through music created by young artists. Rena provided vocal coaching and support.

Stay tuned for exciting new releases planned for 2017, as Rena prepares to re-launch her solo singing project to celebrate 25 years in music.
